Remembering the Great War: The 100th Anniversary of WWI is a fascinating exhibit about a horrible period in modern history. It will appeal to  collectors, history buffs, and all who are interested in human resourcefulness. The exhibit features uniforms, medals, swords, ordnances, an assortment of regulation supplies, firearms, trench art and propaganda posters. A number of the displays focus on soldiers from Ohio.

Coshocton Footlight Players presents Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol, by Tom Mula.  Perfect for the whole family, the play opens as does Charles Dickens’ classic, with Old Marley dead “as a door-nail”.  However, in this tale, the focus never leaves Marley’s chained and burdened soul, and the audience stays with Marley and his guide in the unearthly planes of the afterlife.  Given just 24 hours to redeem himself, Jacob Marley scrambles to reform his former partner in greed –that “squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner”Ebenezer Scrooge.  Jacob Marley appears on December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, and 17. Journey back through time to…The LIVE Nativity. The Live Nativity, in its 15th year, has become a holiday tradition for many in the past. Luminaries light the way as visitors drive through the LIVE scenes depicting the birth of Christ, and other well-known events of His life. This ten minute journey begins at the market place in Bethlehem where the dreaded tax collector awaits, the Inn which is full for the evening leads to the stable where Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus find rest. A host of heavenly angels alert the shepherds guarding there sheep with good news of Jesus’ birth, while the Wise Men worship the newborn Christ child. The journey is completed with scenes of the most told stories about Jesus…the carpenter’s shop, Jesus walking on water, a soldier praying at the cross and Jesus at the tomb.

Enjoy Christmas shopping and holiday activities at the 1st annual Our Town Coshocton 'Twas the Night Before Christmas Event. Children’s activities kick off at 9:30 a.m. in the ArtPARK with an ornament hunt for kids up to age 10 (please bring a Christmas gift bag to hold their found ornaments). Free donuts and cocoa will also be available to all children in attendance. At 10:30 a.m., Santa Claus will take the stage for a special reading of Clement Moore’s poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. After the reading, Santa will mingle with children and hand out a small gift to each child. Children are also welcome to do a snowman craft provided by the Coshocton Public Library before heading on a self-guided tour of the library’s “Snowmen at Christmas” Story Walk down Main Street.  The event also features the Sugar-Plum Shop Hop where shoppers can earn entry tickets for a chance to win prizes by making purchases at participating shops on Main Street.

Ten people loaned their memorabilia to the museum for its WWI exhibit. Some had only a few family heirlooms and others, hundreds of objects—helmets, gas masks, medals, etc. During this program many of these contributors will show their favorite pieces and share the stories behind them. The collectors will also present their personal histories as to how they became interested in WWI memorabilia. WWI Collectors Show and Share will be fascinating not only because of the historical details behind each item but also because of the human story. The program is free with regular admission:  Adults, $4, Students, $3, Families with children ($11), and free for Friends of the Museum.

This annual special exhibit features over 100 works from the county’s high schools. It is composed of a variety of media, from watercolors, acrylics and pastels, to photography, printmaking and sculpture. High school art teachers choose the best works the works based on their composition, technique and originality. With good reason Teen-Age Talent has been a favorite exhibit for 27 years.

Over 200 singers and musicians from central Ohio participate in this annual concert. The choir, now in its 46th season, has commissioned a number of arrangements from well-known composers. Musical selections span the centuries with classics from each era being performed. Four high school guys discover they share an affection for music and entertaining, and form a band -Forever Plaid.Although the new sound, rock ’n’ roll, is quickly overtaking the sounds of the forties and fifties, the Plaids believe in their music and have big dreams of becoming like their idols, singing such barbershop quartet classics as, Three Coins in the Fountain, Moments to Remember, No Not Much, Cry, Sixteen Tons/Chain Gang, Catch a Falling Star, and Love is a Many Splendored Thing. They devote themselves to singing at nights and on weekends, finally landing their first big gig. Then on February 9, 1964, en route to pick up their custom-made plaid tuxedos, in their cherry-red 1954 Mercury convertible, an accident claims their lives.Through the power of harmony, the expanding holes in the ozone layer, and all the other astro-technical stuff, they are able to come back to perform the celebratory show they never got to do in life.

JHM’s biennial contemporary quilt exhibit features 25 art quilts from nationally known artists. Although most of the works share the basic structural characteristics of a quilt—joining at least two layers of fiber with stitching, they break from tradition in their designs and techniques. The quilts are truly works of art and together they create a dance of color, beauty, ingenuity and story.

Coshocton County has been the host of the longest running heritage music festival in Ohio—Dulcimer Days. It is also the second oldest event of its kind in the United States. This year marks the 40th year of this nationally significant Appalachian musical event. Bring the whole family to share a music-filled weekend with the sounds of Appalachian and traditional music played on mountain dulcimers, hammered dulcimers, bowed psalteries, fiddles, guitars, banjos, and other instruments. The Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival hosts the Mid-East Regional Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championships. The festival consists of workshops, mini-concerts, headliner concert, and jam sessions.

The term “Breweriana” refers to any article containing a brewery name or brand name, particularly collectibles. Hundreds of breweries will be represented by a wide array of objects from tin signs and trays to cans, bottles, coasters and taps. Most of the breweries are long gone, but visitors will recognize the names of the cities and small towns where they once thrived. The diversity of items will quench your thirst for beauty, history, wit and comedy.

This special outdoor dinner unfolds on Whitewoman Street in front of the Museum. As the sun sets the scene becomes a sparkling wonderland with luminaries and twinkling lights. Even the diners and table decorations seem to glow since everything is decked in white. The museum provides tables, chairs, music and sparklers. Each group brings its own table decorations, service and culinary creations. Wine and beer may be purchased by the bottle. Spend an evening under the stars in Historic Roscoe Village. Dress in white, decorate your table with white and enjoy a magical evening amidst twinkling lights, candles and friends.

Appalachian Bacon Nation is a celebration of bacon! As the home of one of Kraft Foods largest bacon producing facilities of Oscar Meyer bacon, Coshocton is proud to host this festival celebrating all things bacon! This special exhibit of American propaganda posters commemorates the 100th anniversary of the U.S.’s entry into WWI. The U.S. government decided to use an artistic popular medium, the poster, to incite fear in its citizens of an unknown enemy on another continent. Some of the illustrations have become the most iconic American images ever made, such as James Montgomery Falgg’s stern image of Uncle Sam pointing to the viewer above the words, “I Want You for U.S. Army.”
