Everyone loves meeting Tim and Diesel, the huge draft horse teams that pull the Monticello III Horse-drawn Canal Boat along a restored original section of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Travelers on the (seasonal) 45-minute canal boat ride are also entertained by the lively Canal Boat Captain as he explains 1800s life on the canal with tall tales and history, creating the feeling of actually gliding right into the 1830s. You might even get to assist the helmsman in steering the canal boat while on your journey.

Good things to know

~Arrive at the canal boat landing 15 minutes prior to your scheduled ride.

~The 45 minute canal boat ride includes tales of life on the canal as riders glide down the 1 mile of Ohio and Erie Canal.

~Handicap Parking is available at the Boat Landing, use the gravel driveway to access these spaces.

~Restrooms, snacks and souvenirs are available at the boat landing.

~The boat will run in light rain, but not during thunderstorms or high winds. Please call ahead in questionable weather. (740)622-3415

~Leashed pets are welcome to ride with their families.

~It’s a good idea to wear insect repellent on the boat.

~The horses are very gentle and may be greeted when in their shelter, but not while working.
